Abstract

Following the cerebrovascular accident, half of the patients develop an irritated gag reflex. The gulping function has changed dramatically as a result of the home exercise program, and it has also produced useful effects including a positive attitude and a normal quality of life. The family members who are caring for the patient can be competent enough to assess the early detection of a disturbed or absent gag reflex, recognize the patient's needs, comprehend their understanding of the complications, and use their experience, judgment, and best efforts to successfully treat their patients at the desired level.

Aim: The main aim of the study is to assess an efficiency of Video-assisted Teaching regarding Gag reflex Exercises forĀ  Cerebrovascular accident patients on knowledge among the adults in selected rural areas.

Methodology: Research approach: Quantitative research approach, Research design: Quasi- experimental (single group pretest and posttest design). Sampling technique: Non probability Purposive sampling. Sample size: 40.

Result: The result showed that there was rise in mean of posttest knowledge level scores (29.82) differentiating the mean pretest knowledge level scores (9.85) of adults related to the gag reflex exercises for CVA patients which established the effectiveness of video assisted teaching as evidence by t=32.9. There was scientifically notable association (p<0.05) of the pretest knowledge level scores of adults with their selective socio demographic variables of duration of care only while other socio demographic variables were not in alliance with the pretest knowledge level scores.

Conclusion: Thus, video assisted teaching is proven to be effective for adults to reform knowledge and to improve the standards of home care. Recommendation: Similar comparative study may be conducted using urban population.
