Abstract

Materials and Methods:

Twenty subjects suffering from Myalgia diagnosed based on DC/TMD criteria were selected as the study group. An equal number of healthy young adults were considered as a control group. Treatment was provided in the form of moist heat therapy and a centric stabilization splint. Mandibular movement tracings of both the study and control group were recorded using Axioquick® Recorder.

Results:

The axiographic tracings of healthy subjects showed a mean mandibular tracing length of 7.40   1.35mm on the right side and 7.15   1.35 mm on the left side. Whereas the tracings of patients suffering from myalgia showed a significant reduction in mean length of 3.90 ±1.12mm on the right side and 4.25 ± 1.37mm on the left side.

Conclusion:

Axiograph tracing of patients suffering from myalgia exhibited significantly shorter mandibular movement tracings compared to healthy subjects. Mandibular movement tracings showed significant improvement following treatment.
