Impact of Socio-Demographic factors on Social Support, Pain and Health-Related Quality of Life (OoL) among Women during Menstrual Cycle

Objective: To study the impact of socio-demographic factors on social support, pain and health-related quality of life among women during the menstrual cycle.
Study design: A cross-sectional survey research design was used and data was collected using a purposive sampling technique.
Place and duration of study: The Study was completed in one year, from 30 November 2021 to 19 November, 2022. Participants comprised 150 women from different areas of Punjab, Pakistan.
Methodology: After obtaining consent, three self-report measures including the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), Medical Outcomes Survey-Short Form (MS-36) and Numeric Pain Rating Scale(NRS) were used for data collection. The sample was used to ensure the psychometric properties and test the hypothesis of the study.
Results: The findings revealed that age, menarche, marital status, menstrual regularity, duration of menstrual cycle and residence have a significant positive relation with pain and health-related quality of life. Marital status and the menstrual regularity have a significant positive relationship with social support among women during menstrual cycle.
Conclusion: The study revealed demographic variables of age, menarche (age at 1st menstrual cycle), marital status, menstrual regularity, duration of periods and residence have a significant positive relation with pain and health-related quality of life among women during menstrual cycle. Whereas, marital status and menstrual regularity have positive relationship with social support among women during menstrual cycle.
