Comparison Of Adapted Lifestyle Integrated Functional Exercise (Alife) Program With Aerobic Exercises In Improving The Quality Of Life In Young Seniors

Abstract

Background: There are many changes that are seen in old people which leads to many problems such as decreased muscle power, muscle activation, decreased muscle strength which leads to functional losses in ADL’s and causes reduction in their Quality of Life. There are changes in endurance which contributes to functional loss and disability. Quality of life is an individual’s perception of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectation, standard, and concerns.There are various studies being done on aLiFE program on various domain affecting the physiological health in geriatric age groups, but a very few studies have been done for the purpose of improving the quality of life in geriatric population and further we got no study comparing the effect of aLiFE protocol with aerobic exercises.

Methods: In this study there were be 34 participants, and they were be divided into equal two group’s i.e Group A & B. Group A were given aLiFE protocol for 4-6 days/week and for duration of1- 1.5 hours a day. Group B were given Aerobic exercises for 1-1.5 hours and 4-6 days/week. All outcome measures were compared from 0-4 weeks.

Discussion: After the result, the analysis was done by using the software SPSS version 26.0, IBM and the inter-group comparison was done by using Mann Whitney U test. The intra-group comparison was done by using Wilcoxon Signed rank test. The effectiveness of aLiFE protocol and aerobic exercises was assessed statistically and clinically.

CONCLUSION

According to the statistical analysis and the results concluded  wasthat both the groups were equally effective in improving Quality of Life in young seniors.
