Single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is a new diagnostic technology that applies isotopes to CT. It was first discovered and applied clinically by Kahl et al. (1976) and has been widely used in the 1980s. The basic principle of SPECT is to inject or inhale radionuclides or drugs that can emit pure gamma photons into the human body.
