The neonatal line is a line in the enamel of a newborn baby that indicates the birthrime. Neonatal line demarcates the prenatal and postnatal enamel and dentin of teeth. The initial permanent molars that start calcifying before delivery and the deciduous teeth that start calcifying in weeks 14–18.5 of gestation both have the neonatal line. This literature review is aimed at studying and explaining the formation of neonatal line, the factors influencing this, how various diseases such as cerebral palsy or the pregnancy process, as well as extraneous factors such as maternal alcoholism, drug use, stress and depression during gestation change its appearance and width. Research also contains information about the evolutionary changes of the Neonatal line and its variations from population to population.
