Abstract

This article analyzes the etiology of 418 cases of convulsions that started before the age of two. Neonatal convulsions occurred in 86 cases within 30 days after birth, 332 cases occurred in infancy (January to 23 months), and 12 cases had convulsions in neonates and infancy. The author conducted etiology research based on medical history, family history, physical examination, neurological examination, blood chemistry, cerebrospinal fluid, urine and other examinations, skull plain films, pneumoencephalography or autopsy. As a result, 67 cases (16%) had prenatal factors, 49 cases (12%) had intranatal factors, 158 cases (38%) had postnatal factors, and 44 cases (34%) had unknown causes. Prenatal factors included brain malformations in 23 cases (6%), among which there were some structural abnormalities of the body such as cataracts or limb deformities
