Narcolepsy, cataplexy, sleep paralysis, and hypnagogic hallucinations constitute the four major symptoms of narcolepsy. Dement and Klertman (1957) reported that nocturnal sleep is composed of dreaming, physical activity, and characteristic rapid eye movement (REM).
